THE LINCOLN TRIO Th Jan 11
Founded in 2002 this Trio composed of violinist Desiree Ruhstrat, cellist David Cunliffe and pianist Marta Aznavoorian has emerged as one of Chicago’s most celebrated ensembles. Their program will include trios by Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Paul Schoenfield, and Turina.
GILA GOLDSTEIN, CONCERT PIANIST Th Feb 8
Pianist Gila Goldstein, who has resided in New York City since 1988, has performed to great acclaim as a solo artist and collaborative pianist in major venues in the USA, Israel, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. She will perform works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Liszt/Schubert, Prokofiev, and Schumann.
THE GRAFFE QUARTET Th Mar 8
This Quartet was founded in 1997 at the Brno Conservatory in the Czech Republic. Winners of many international chamber music prizes, the Graffe Quartet will be making its North American Debut at Oakmont..While the first half of their program will be devoted to works by Czech composers, they will be joined by pianist Tien Hsieh in the Schumann Piano Quintet for the 2nd half.
MARILYN THOMPSON AND FRIENDS Th Apr 12
Marilyn is an old friend of the Oakmont Concert Series and a superb pianist who specializes in chamber music. Her “friends” will include a violist, clarinetist, and flutist from the San Francisco Symphony. The program centers around Max Bruch’s Pieces for Cl, Vla, and Piano as well as the Rebecca Clarke viola/piano sonata.
THE STANFORD WOODWIND QUINTET Th May 10
One of America’s most distinguished ensembles, the Stanford Woodwind Quintet unites five virtuoso performers, each renowned for solo work and chamber music collaboration. These are principal musicians from the San Francisco and San Jose Opera Orchestras and outstanding Stanford University faculty members. Their program will include music of Bach, Vivaldi, Ibert, and Malcolm Arnold.
ANNA KRUGER AND FRIENDS Th Jun 14
Founding violist of the famed Lark Quartet 1985 through 1998, Anna will be joined by violinist Dawn Harms and flutist Janet Ketchum in a performance of the marvelous Beethoven Serenade scored for flute, violin and viola, as well as other works TBA.
KAI GLEUSTEEN, VIOLINIST Th Jul 12
Accompanied by his wife, pianist Catherine Ordonneau, Kai Gleusteen is a Canadian born violinist who currently is serving as Concertmaster of the Gran Teatre del Liecu orchestra in Barcelona. He last dazzled our Oakmont audience in October of 2004.
A GRAND SCHUBERTIAD WITH BETTY WOO Th Aug 9
Pianist Betty Woo, violinist Axel Strauss, and Cellist Angela Lee will join forces to present another program based on the glorious music of Franz Schubert. This will include the Bb Trio and other works TBA.
NINA TICHMAN, PIANIST Th Sep 13
This will be Nina’s second appearance at Oakmont. She comes to us from Cologne, Germany and is the sister of San Francisco Symphony’s Associate Concertmaster, Nadya. A graduate of Juilliard, winner of numerous international competitions including the Busoni and Mendelssohn, she has performed with orchestras in the musical centers of the world. She will play Haydn, Schubert, and Chopin .
THE SAN FRANCISCO STRING TRIO Th Oct 18
Cellist Tanya Tomkins, another frequent Oakmont performer, will bring her trio which includes violist Jodi Levitz, and violiinist Bettina Mussumeli. All three are world class musicians and will present a program of Beethoven, Martinu, and the Dohnanyi Serenade.
THE JUPITER TRIO Th Nov 8
Pianist Aglika Angelova, violinist Robert Waters, and cellist Julian Hersh will be coming to us from Chicago and are well known here.They will play trios by Hummel, Shostakovich (No. 1), Dvorak (f minor), and Schubert. (Eb).
THE ST. LAWRENCE QUARTET Th Dec 13
They will be joined by Stephen Prutsman at the piano during the second half of the program to play one of greatest piano quintets in the chamber music repertoire, the Brahms Quintet in g minor.
All concerts are subject to change. They take place in Berger Center starting at 1:30pm and usually end by 3:45pm.
The fee for an individual concert is $10 per person payable at the door. A Season Ticket can be purchased for $84 and this is good for all 12 concerts. These are available from the Treasurer at the concerts of Nov, Dec, Jan, and Feb only and checks should be made out to “Oakmont Concert Series”. All concerts are open solely to residents, performers, and their friends and guests.
