16th Season

THE JACQUES THIBAUD PIANO QUARTET       THURSDAY, JAN 5
Prize-winners in the prestigious 1999 Bonn Chamber Music Competition, this program presents the famous German string trio in collaboration with one of the Bay Areas great pianists, Paul Hersh, in a program of quartets by Mozart and Schumann and a trio by Jean Francaix.

THE ST. LAWRENCE QUARTET       THURSDAY, JAN 12
One of the most famous string quartets in North America, they have performed at Oakmont once before and electrified our audience. Composed of Geoff Nuttall, violin; Barry Shiffman, violin; Lesley Robertson, viola; and Christopher Costanza, cello--their program is TBA.

THE RUSSIAN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA       THURSDAY, FEB 9
Composed of string players from the various orchestras around the Bay Area, this orchestra of 15 musicians under the direction of Music Director and Conductor Alexander Vereshagin will perform a program of Bach, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Locatelli, and Shostakovich.

IAN SWENSEN, VIOLIN       THURSDAY, MAR 9
Awarded top prize by the Naumberg foundations in both the International Violin Competition and the Chamber Music Competition, Mr. Swensen is a graduate of Juilliard. The program will consist of the sonatas by Debussy and Bartok as well as other pieces to be determined.

ALESSANDRA MARIA AMMARA       THURSDAY, APR 13
Finalist in the 11th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2001, Alessandra will come to Oakmont from Florence, Italy . She performs with orchestras and chamber musicians throughout the world. A graduate of the Conservatory of Florence, she will play music by Chopin, Ravel, Albeniz, Scriabin, and Scarlatti.

THE CALIFORNIA PIANO QUARTET       THURSDAY, MAY 18
Led by Kay Stern, concertmaster of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, this quartet of outstanding Bay Area musicians includes pianist Robert Schwartz, violist Ben Simon, and cellist Dana Putnam Fonteneau. Amongst other works they will be performing the Gabriel Faure Quartet No. 1.

THE TSELYAKOV TRIO (piano, violin, cello)       THURSDAY, JUN 8
Alexander Tselyakov, Russian-born Canadian pianist who has been putting on fascinating programs--both solo and two piano--for Oakmont for a number of years, will be presenting one of the most glorious and melodic of piano trios--the Tchaikovsky.

THE EOS ENSEMBLE       THURSDAY, JUL 13
This talented group of musicians from the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, led by violinist Craig Reiss, will present a program for harp, flute, and string quartet by Ravel, Debussy, and Francaix.

JOEL FAN, CONCERT PIANIST       THURSDAY, AUG 10
Mr. Fan began his international performing career with the NY Philharmonic at the age of 11 and has appeared in numerous duo performances with Yo-Yo Ma. His program will include Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata as well as a selection of compositions by Chopin.

THE MAYBECK TRIO (piano, clarinet, cello)       THURSDAY, SEP 14
One of the Bay Area's outstanding chamber music groups, this trio features clarinetist Roy Zajac, cellist Elaine Kreston, and pianist Jerry Kuderna. Sharing a common Czech ancestry, they bring a unique combination of passion and refinement to their performances. Program TBA.

AVI AND SHANA DOWNES CELLO AND PIANO DUO       THURSDAY OCT 19
Winners of the chamber music prize of the Rostropovich cello competition in Paris these sisters are native San Franciscans who have studied and performed around the world. The Faure Cello Sonata #2 will be featured.

GLOVER AND HANSEN (piano duets)       THURSDAY, NOV 9
This Bay Area duo has delighted Oakmont audiences before and this time they plan a program which will include Mozart's great F major sonata, a selection of Dvorak Slavonic Dances, and many others TBA.

THE RONEN TRIO (piano, flute, cello)       THURSDAY, DEC 7
Known for the warmth and depth of their interpretations, flutist Yael Ronen, cellist Burke Schuchmann, and pianist Aileen James will perform a variety of repertoire including Haydn, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Poulenc, & Villa Lobos

All concerts are subject to change. They take place in Berger Center starting at 1:30pm and usually end by 3:45pm. The fee for an individual concert is $10 per person payable at the door. A Season Ticket can be purchased for $84 and this is good for 12 concerts. These are available prior to the concerts of Nov, Dec, Jan, and Feb only and checks should be made out to Oakmont Concert Series. All concerts are solely open to residents, performers, and their friends and guests.
